It’s that time again when we look at the new, exciting, and upcoming releases in the world of comic books in our April 2021 Solicitations. Though these titles are listed in April they’ll come out in June. So don’t read the descriptions because they’re always spoiling the stories! WHY DOES THIS SYSTEM EXIST?
Well…Marvel just decided that it won’t any longer.
Infinite Frontier #1 – DC Comics
Just when you think you’re out, they drag you back in.
Such is the case with Infinite Frontier. Think about. By January 2021 we had the resolution to Dark Nights Death Metal. Then we slid into Generations Shattered, which drove us into Future State. That led to Infinite Frontier and now we’re getting…Infinite Frontier.
But damnit. I’ll do it. Again and again because I am liking this direction. One of the items on my big wish list for DC was to get a variety of talent on a variety of books. And with backend stories appearing in a lot of the main line of books, it seems like I’m getting my wish. So let’s get some more.
Plus Joshua Williamson is on this and he’s good at keeping this epic stuff in front of him so idiots like me can understand what is going on.
But seriously. I’m expecting a Future State part 2 sometime this year.
Batman: Reptilian – DC Comics
I said it many times but I will say it once more, so that there can be no doubt. I will never, ever buy another Batman book in this time of millions, upon millions of Batman books. Seriously, this situation is getting ridiculous. Why not give the thousand other charaters a chance to have their books? Hell do an online round robin voting thing for crying out loud. Because I’m done with Bat-
Say that again? Garth Ennis is writing a Batman book?
What was that? Liam Sharp is drawing it?
Black Hammer Reborn – Dark Horse Comics
Um, no one saw this one coming. Right….
The Dark Horse cash cow keeps on giving us that milk. And I don’t mind at all because Jeff Lemire’s lush and fantastic world that is Black Hammer is just too damn good to let it pass you by. So I’m ready for more. And this is a direct follow up to the first series of books. I’m sure it’s going to have that same wit, charm, and hit those nostalgic strings that keeps me going back like Lemire’s my personal cocaine dealer. Plus we have a new artist, Caitlin Yarsky to give us what we need. This is a no brainer and it’s going to be really really good. Guaranteed.*
Godzilla Rivals – IDW Publishing
Okay look. Godzilla vs. Kong is a movie that I’m going to see on HBO Max. Because I love this shit. So why not keep it going in comic book form? I have a feeling our favorite mutant, radioactive lizard is going to get its own series soon. And why not? It would be a lot of fun. So let’s start here.
It’s the 1970s, and the world’s most terrifying Kaiju smash their way through New York City! As Godzilla and Hedorah do battle above, down below Todd Hopkins is racing across Manhattan, in a desperate bid to save the only scientist who can stop the chaos and drive the monsters back into the sea. But before the day is over, secrets will be revealed, and terrible choices made, to save the city from utter destruction!
Writer Paul Allor (TMNT, G.I. Joe) and artist E.J. Su (Transformers, Godzilla: Legends) join forces to bring the premiere Godzilla Versus quarterly one-shot series in explosively shocking fashion! And each stand-alone issue features special wrestling poster-themed retailer incentive variants by fan-favorite artist Jeffrey Veregge (Transformers, Judge Dredd).
Visitor #5 & #6 – Valiant
YESSSSS GLORY BE TO GOD ALMIGHTY ON THIS HOLIEST OF GOOD DAYS.
We’re finally getting the conclusion to Paul Levitz’s The Visitor from Valiant. And man I can’t be happier. I’ve been looking forward to this ever since COVID hit and I realized Valiant wasn’t going to release it. And thank the almighty that they are. They’ve been a bit stop and go with some of their titles recently, so anything that can continue something that I’m reading is a well deserved chocolate egg.
Plus by this time I’ll have Shadowman in my hands, hopefully a couple of more copies of X-O Manowar, and then Ninjak’s gotta be stopping by at some point.
Valiant is good. Glory be to Valiant.
