October 2021 Solicitations

October 2021 Solicitations post thumbnail image

It’s that time again when we look at the new, exciting, and upcoming releases in the world of comic books in our October 2021 Solicitations. Though these titles are listed in October they’ll come out in December. Happy holidays!

Avengers Forever

I think the theme this month and last was thank god for Free Comic Book Day.  Because a lot of those ‘free’ issues made me actually jump on a few things. Avengers Forever being one of them.

And what’s not to like? A crazy multiverse epic that requires a bunch of different versions of superheroes fighting other different versions? And I guess this is an ongoing series?

Plus Jason Aaron is on the typewriter and I do feel bad about abandoning the regular series. But it’s money yo.

Finally, how could you go wrong? Anything with the word Forever in it is a guaranteed hit!

Devil’s Reign

At this point I can take back a previous statement that I wasn’t interested in events. Because apparently I am. I keep buying these things.

But this one looks pretty cool I gotta say. If anyone has been on Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil run you know this is going to be good. Because his whole run has been good…damn good. So fine, let’s tie this into some irrelevant titles because yes, I will buy them. Sigh.

Batgirls

Nananananana BATGIRLS! Hell yeah. Look, I have a new found love for anything Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad are doing because they are absolutely destroying it on Wonder Woman. That book is so good right now I don’t even dare talk about it.

Plus I feel like a teambook like this one is a bit due. With all that dark and gloomy Batman shit out there, this one looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Swamp Thing Green Hell

Jeff Lemire. Am I in love with this guy because he’s handsome or am I in love with him because he just keeps putting out a lot of good quality stuff. I think both but I’m still confused.

Plus the description alone is enough to fork over my money and gasp as I’m treated to page after page of Doug Mahnke.

From Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth) and Doug Mahnke (JLA, Final Crisis), Swamp Thing Green Hell will bring a three-part dark, dystopian tale within DC’s Black Label line. In Green Hell, the Earth is all but done. The last remnants of humanity cling to a mountaintop island lost in endless floodwater. The Parliaments of the Green, the Red, and the Rot all agree: it’s time to wipe the slate clean and start the cycle of life over again. And to do so, they’ve united their powers to summon an avatar-one of the most horrific monsters to ever stalk the surface of this forsaken planet. Against a creature like that, there can be no fighting back…unless you have a soldier who understands the enemy. Someone who has used its tactics before. Someone like Alec Holland. Shame he’s been dead for decades…

One-Star Squadron

Speaking of people I’m in love with, Mark Russell and Steve Lieber team up on a superhero team comic book. And this group just happens to be led by Red Tornado.

I need to start moving some funds around.

From Mark Russell (Wonder Twins, Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles) and Steve Lieber (Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen), One-Star Squadron follows DC’s Super Hero team, where heroism meets capitalism. This ragtag group of heroes led by Red Tornado is here to provide service with a smile. All you have to do is send a request via their on-demand hero app and they’ll answer any call. Whether it’s a children’s birthday party or an alien invasion, no job is too small or too big in this story about the Super Heroes without a billion dollar fortune or Fortress of Solitude to fall back on… heroes like Red Tornado, Power Girl, Gangbuster, and Minute Man. Follow these working stiffs as they work for a living while trying to parse one of the great mysteries of the world–just who’s signing those checks and why?

And those are my October 2021 Solicitations! Curious on any of my other picks? Go ahead and head on over to my dedicated Solicitations page and bask in my in-depth knowledge and exceptional taste of everything related to comic books and pop culture.
