    27 – Cosplay Day

    It was Cosplay Day at expatNERD. We’ve been running this for a while now and I am always surprised that more stores don’t do something like this. I mean why wait for a convention or a movie to come out to show us what you can do? Plus, there is something special and unifying about the experience of dressing up as your favorite characters, especially ones that you identify with.

    Unfortunately, it can be triggering for some people, currently for unknown reasons.

    But back to Asterix and Obelix. It was shocking when I realized that they did not make it over the pond. I mean, these two characters are not only beloved, but are globally recognized…outside of the United States I guess. Asterix and Obelix do share that same sacred space as Robbie Williams, Take That, and the metric system.

    We do have some interesting strips coming up. Franka told me this will be the start of a Curt-focused storyline, bringing us closer to his secret ‘origin’ story.

    Make god help us all.

    26 – Barbenheimer

    It really is a special time for fans of comic books. If you told me that in the summer, we could see a new movie about the ultimate super-hero Superman, the super-hero that started it all. And then a mere two weeks later (two weeks mind you) we could see a movie about the most famous family in the world, a family that literally started the Marvel Universe, the Fantastic Four…well I would not believe you, would even declare you insane, and then banish you from the store.

    But we are getting this scenario. It really is a dream come true. I will see both films multiple times. As usual, my trailer-boycott is still intact, and I am quite proud of that. So I am really going in this thing blind.

    Like Curt, Superman is my favorite character. Like Curt, Thing is probably my favorite too. When I write those two sentences, I can barely keep down the amount of glee that wants to erupt from my mouth.

    I am going to have a SteelTastic time.
