15 – Comic Book Ninja III

The conclusion to our epic Comic Book Ninja saga, featuring the secret origin of Comic Book Ninja! Franka put it nicely. General assholery is running rampant and it is up to Comic Book Ninja to take them down!

Now, it is not all doom and gloom and we do see a lot of the more positive fandom out in the world today. But boy, the toxicity fandom is quite loud and you always wonder if there is indeed darkness before the dawn. Luckily, Comic Book Ninja has our backs.

And I think he will be busy. We have a whole lot of comic book events coming up, more specifically in the film-verse. Fantastic Four and Superman are being released almost simutaneously, and before that we have the Thunderbolts, which is obviously not following its origin as one of those shock and awe comics back in the day. When these things happen I tend to ignore everything that is speculated or people’s opinions on whether or not it will be good or bad, and leave it for the only opinion that counts to me…myself. And I think others should have this approach as well. You should never be ashamed for what you enjoy, even if you do feel like you are in the minority. It is your life after all and we only have a short amount of time on this spinning ball we call Earth. So spend it consuming everything that you enjoy and do not let others dictate otherwise.

That is the true lesson of Comic Book Ninja.

Back to the comic. A bet has been suggested and shots have been fired. How will Curt take the bait? Because Franka is obviously baiting him. Read next week to find out!

  • Justice League Quarterly #5

I am going to take a page out of Frank’s book and recommend something from the past, inspired by Comic Book Ninja. This week it is Justice League Quarterly #5 and in particular a beautiful story written by Mark Waid and drawn by Mike McKone called Be Careful What You Wish For, which is the lead story. As you know from Comic Book Ninja Part I, Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis had a very successful run on Justice League International. During this period two titles spun off from it, Justice League Europe, and Justice League Quarterly, which was a comic book that came out every three months and had around 80 pages.

Be Careful What You Wish For is extremely touching. I implore all of you to dig up this issue and I know you can probably find it in a lot of dollar bins out there. I do not want to spoil it, but the story focuses on Ice and her insecurities. Professor Ivo sends his Amazo robots out into the world and they steal powers from specific super-heroes for a specific reason. Again, I do not want to spoil it but it is extremely well written, well drawn, and there are a lot of fun moments. I will give one away, Ice ends up using Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern ring at one point…

It’s just a great comic. Additionally, Mark Waid is still going strong and pretty much runs the D.C. line at this time of writing and he has used Professor Ivo quite a bit in World’s Finest and other places, so it does seem like he really enjoys writing the character.

    Cheerio
